Palm oil is one of the most controversial commodities in the world.  The industry has been facing some major challenges and scrutiny in recent years due to its association with environmental and social concerns. Despite this negative connotation, the palm oil industry is a cornerstone of economic development, developing lands efficiently and providing jobs to millions. Thus, segregation is not the answer. Shifting to a sustainable production of palm oil is. Here we present Mano Palm Oil Industries’ sustainability approach.

Mano Palm Oil Industries (MPOI) is a relatively new oil palm player, but we aim to do things right from the beginning. Three years down the road, we have outlined the way forward. 

MPOI’s commitment to producing palm oil in an environmentally sustainable, socially, and economically responsible manner is represented in the company’s policies and operating procedures which are established in accordance with ‘No Deforestation, No Peat, and No Exploitation (NDPE)’ principles as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

MPOI’s commitments are mainly focused on: 

  1. Protecting High conservation values (HCV) and high carbon stock forests (HCS) and prohibiting any expansion on high HCV and HCS areas.
  2. Respect, protect and enhance the rights of employees, local communities, and indigenous people around the concession.
  3. Ensure occupational health and safety of all employees. 
  4. Support smallholders by providing know-hows for responsible oil palm production.
  5. Comply with national and international regulations with full transparency. 
  6. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to achieve the above objectives.

To portray our commitment even further, we are committed to the principles and criteria of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and take part in their journey to make sustainable palm oil the norm. Our commitment to RSPO’s principles and criteria is conveyed in the way we produce palm oil, manage our operations, and implement sustainable business practices.
